This website is the virtual link to the former Chevron gasoline station sign. The structure has been repurposed as a public art venue. Please feel free to leave any comment regarding the project or artist on exhibition.

Display space dimensions

The dimensions for the interior space of the sign measure the three largest spaces. The measurements provided are approximate. Works should be smaller than the dimensions provided.

Top Space 29"tall, 60" Wide
Middle Space 40" tall, 60" wide
Bottom Space 62" tall, 60" wide

A removable panel system is available for 2/D works, and the dimensions should be followed precisely to allow for smooth installation.

66" side, 144" tall

Weight Considerations- No artwork should weigh more than 250 Lbs.

The Dreamer

The work currently being shown at the artSPOT public art venue was created by Doris Florig. The felt and steel sculptures react with the wind, creating both interesting shapes and shadows. Enjoy the work while it lasts, de-installation is set for October 13th.

Rocky Mountain Bank has provided the former Chevron sign structure for a temporary public art venue.

The Community Foundation approved a Micro-Grant for printing large-scale photographic banners of artists work.

The Art Association supports artSPOT by encouraging 'art out of the box,' and enabling artists to reach beyond the gallery.

The Center of Wonder facilitated the lighting system that illuminates the venue during the night.

Olause Linn - Transient

Olause Linn took this picture on his family ranch. The hat was apparently left behind by the unnamed operator of the equipment. This is reminiscent of the labor market in Jackson. Many of the working class commute from surrounding towns, but is this sustainable?

Barn Chicken and a Nest

The first series of artwork has been installed on the former Chevron sign structure. The artSPOT project has hit the gound and is running!

The nest is a collaboration between Lai Orenduff and Bland Hoke. Lai was interested in recreating an osprey nest to place on the sign. Bland found a load of scrap metal and made a solid armature at Custom Iron Design. The nest was woven at the Center for the Arts, where Lai had arranged for storage of materials. On a Saturday morning, Jim Roscoe, with Roscoe Co. Construction, assisted Bland, Mark Dunstan and Terry Chambers with the installation of the nest. Jim drove a Gradall to the site, and the nest was placed on top of the structure and affixed with 6 1/2" bolts.

The Barn Chicken image is a recreation of a photo using paint samples from hardware stores. Barn Chicken is a collaboration between Bland Hoke, Padgett Hoke and Jessica Lewicky. The color samples were requested from Colombia Paints, Wilson Hardware, True Value, and Ace hardware.

Structural Sublimation

artSPOT is an alternative venue for art in Jackson Hole, facilitated by Bland Hoke. The lot was recently purchased by the Rocky Mountain Bank. The artSPOT project will continue as planned, with displays of public art rotating throughout the summer season. An article can be found in the Spring issue of Splash magazine, which includes a Call For Artists to participate in the project. The project will take place between July 2007-September 2007.

Artists have responded to the Call for Artists, and are approaching the sign structure with varied viewpoints. From sculpture to large scale printed banners, the sign structure will be transformed and repurposed for the benefit of the community and for the many tourists visiting to Jackson Hole.
